Green Schools Green Future is a Canadian non profit organization founded in 2018 by environmentalist Nikole Bélanger with the dream of introducing a new, progressive and green education system in developing communities. Its mission is to develop responsible leaders of tomorrow by teaching sustainable vocational skills.
At Green Schools Green Future (GSGF), we have a plan – a new and progressive education system that might steer this sinking ship to safety. We believe that by teaching the youth environmentally- sustainable trades such as vertical farming and aquaponics, we can empower them to have a stake in a better future. With machine learning on the rise, we know that over 40 percent of jobs may become obsolete by the time our students graduate. The curriculum at GSGF not only teaches students traditional subjects but also computer programming, artificial intelligence and blockchain.
A dedicated environmentalist servicing her community for decades, Nikole Bélanger is the founder of this project. Since 2008, through Nikobel Solutions, she has been consulting organizations who want to adopt green policies. Now, along with the help of 28 volunteers, she has developed partnerships with communities in Canada, Haiti, Sierra Leone, Gabon, and India to make her dream of a green education system come true.
But a dream without donations remains a dream. With an aim to begin building the first pilot school in early, 2020, GSGF needs to raise $264,000. That’s enough to finance the vertical farm and aquaponics system, the schools solar panels, its environmentally-sustainable building materials, furniture, supplies and computers, which will reduce the use of paper.
Originally from Montréal, Québec, Nikole Bélanger has over 30 years of experience managing businesses in multiple disciplines. Since 2008, she has been a part of an initiative led by Al Gore: The Climate Reality Project – Canada. She’s successfully implemented innovative concepts in the fashion industry, power transmission and distribution, and telecommunications. Nikole has also worked extensively on developing not-for-profit organizations. An idealist with a global vision and an eye for detail, Nikole continuously brings together people and projects. She is a passionate environmentalist, who works at developing awareness and action on environmental sustainability and climate change concerns. Her knowledge of environmental technology and her strong networking abilities are key assets to provide solutions toward a green economy and reducing collective carbon emissions by supporting green energy developments.
The reality we now face implores us to act.
– Al Gore, Founder & Chairman, The Climate Reality Project
To introduce a new, progressive and green education system in developing communities that directly connects students to sustainable tools and applications. To educate a new generation of green leaders to advance their communities in the new green economy.
To provide sustainable education for a sustainable future in developing communities.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Nelson Mandela
We believe that to create a green and sustainable future, we must first start by focusing on education. Green Schools Green Future strives to build schools that:
Are sustainable, environmentally responsible and self-sufficient
Offer students and their parents the opportunity to learn about green trades and technology
Empower students within their own communities
Provide the underprivileged with a path to a brighter future
We plan to accomplish this mission by building schools using sustainable construction materials, solar panels, water filtration systems, and implementing aquaculture and aquaponic farms.
The benefits of green technology:
Offers hands-on experience with aquaponic food and fish production as well as maintaining
solar panels and water filtration systems
Helps students transition into a green career after graduation
Provides a source of healthy food for students and their families
Generates a surplus of food and electricity that can be sold to generate income for the
school and the community

For me the Green Schools Green Future project is about change. Change in how education is delivered in developing communities. Change in how these communities can thrive and move forward in the new green economy. Change in how future leaders are created.

As someone who believes that everyone should have some environmental education in order to protect the Earth. Today being a part of the GSGF project, I have the opportunity to educate the young generation of my country Haiti and abroad, while learning so much myself.
