ICA-Edu Colloquium 2018 Progarmme

June 21, 2018 - June 22, 2018

“Let the entrepreneurial genie out of the bottle!
how will we stimulate the nascent entrepreneurial skills of our students?”

The new generation of life sciences graduates is expected to show creativity, resilience, pro-activeness and risk taking while being able to recognise opportunities: in short entrepreneurship. Whereas traditionally entrepreneurship education was the domain of business schools to stimulate new venture creation, entrepreneurship education has become more and more a university-broad approach focussing on the development of an entrepreneurial mind-set and entrepreneurial competence among staff and students: entrepreneurial development is increasingly dependent on our education. The focus of this colloquium is to share views, experiences and practices on how to stimulate nascent entrepreneurship, curricular as well as extra-curricular in the Life Sciences.

Hot Topic Session Friday 22 June at 14.00 – 15:30

Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Education: an invitation to contribute to an emerging research field

While entrepreneurship was originally primarily valued for its contribution to economic growth, its potential for the solution of societal and environmental problems is acknowledged as well. Over the last decade the notion of sustainable entrepreneurship has gained more and more momentum. Whether the outcome is an eco-innovation, sustainable start-up or project, entrepreneurial thinking and acting starts first of all with motivated individuals and their ideas. Although (higher) education is acclaimed to play an important role in laying the foundation for sustainable entrepreneurship competence, what learning factors contribute to developing such capacities is unclear. There is even less work that empirically investigates these factors, including the opportunities, challenges and dilemma’s that sustainable entrepreneurship education may impose.

This session is part of a call for research papers for a special issue on Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Education for the scholarly Journal Sustainability (http://www.mdpi.com/journal/sustainability). The purpose and ambition of this session is to introduce you to the guest editors of this special issue, discuss the state of the art and to elicit emerging topics, issues and challenges that need to be addressed in future research.
